It's happening. With the 2010 OCI results trickling in, even the biggest pumpers on that board can't hide the depressing shit that's going on.

Those assholes??

Why not just pay to get sodomized? Why bother paying the schools?

These idiots are living in the 21st century now. The Internet is well-established and there is tons and tons and tons of anti-law school information out there to see, all one Google search away.

I went to ls nearly 20 years ago. Little different.

I guess their world of Pink Ponies and Rainbows and pots of Gold at the end is coming apart at the seams now.

As the title hints, I'm at DePaul right now, top 5% + LR and a summer job as an RA with a well-respected professor. As you might guess, our OCI turnout is pretty abysmal with only 10 or so firms showing up (plus a bunch of resume collects). Obviously, I'm just gonna go ahead and do OCI no matter what. I figure I'll probably get a few interviews but I'm doubtful I'll get any offers. The economy is obviously terrible and firms are hiring very few SA's compared to previous years. My question is really whether I have a shot at all. Is it possible that some of these firms are just showing up to play nice with DePaul and have no intention of making any offers?

Thanks in advance.

---------------------

Fuck him. And I say him because I am sure this is a male. If he were an attractive female, he'd be in at a large firm.

He didn't go through a firm's Summer Associate program? He's fuqqed.

That's just how it goes.

Sorry Charlie. Welcome to the world of law.

Dear Mr. Johndoeee: I enjoy your negativity and like the fact that you are a bit older -- I guess you are probably in your 40s. But why so much hate for the ladies? Can't you join a Mel Gibson fan club or something for that part of your rant?

Mel should run for f-ing President. The more they beat up on the guy the more I like him. He messed up leaving his wife though (who sounds like a true gem, especially coming out with that affidavit) and taking up with whomever...

In the words of a pretty good lawyer I know: "...whatever."

Go to law school, don't go to law school. The information about the realities of the profession is certainly out there.

Now it is. Would have been nice if it had been there 7 years ago when it could have helped me. Oh well, at least I'm not nearly as screwed as the current crop of lawyers.

They're not getting offers because they haven't "networked" yet. The moment they start to do that, everything will change.

JohnDoeee. I want to talk to you in person some day. I think you will be a fantastic contact to have and a brilliant legal mind with your vast wealth of knowledge and legal experience. I aspire to your position of excellence, sir. Tell me, what areas do you practice? Did you ever do any criminal law work? Do you work for a firm, an agency, or for yourself? I salute you!!!

As a 3L (Class of 2011), I remember when shit went bad and they said "those who went through OCI in 2008 will see the worst of it." Then the economy got even worse, and they said "2009 OCI is going to be bad, but these kids won't graduate until 2011, so things will have turned around by then." Last year's OCI really was a bloodbath. I know plenty of top 25% and law-reviewers at my first tier (T25) toilet who didn't get shit from it, and were still looking for a job when classes let out for the summer.

Over at TLS the lemmings have been talking up 2010 OCI because "it's definitely going to be better than last year, things are turning around so we don't have to worry."

I really, really wish I would have dropped out after '09 OCI. Would only have been one miserable year and ~30k in the hole...may God help these poor 2Ls to see the light once they inevitably come up short during this year's OCI cycle.

It's human nature to believe (to hope) the future will be better than the past. Otherwise, you'd go crazy.

The schools know this and they play upon it expertly.

As far as TLS, I love how everyone that posts as "anonymous" is now a JDU troll:

-----------------------------

"It's anonymous because he is a JDU troll. He posted a link to that post on JDU and started a thread about TLS."

-----------------------------

As if somehow their board is private and nothing they post should be discussed or reposted on other forums.

These people are flaming idiots. TLS is a great example of psychology, naivete, arrogance, stupidity, and youth combined in one.

Frankly, I can't really stand reading their posts. That's a mindset I've long ago abandoned in favor of a somewhat more pragmatic outlook.

Then they come here and start flame wars. They are like mini J. Clarks. These are the idiots who will shortly pack the law schools or are already there as 2 and 3L's.

No skin off my back.

They'll figure it all out for themselves - the hard way - in about 3 years' time.

OCI is a joke anyway. Often, I think its just a Dog-and-Pony show for the firms. Just because they show up with recruiters at a school, it does not mean they will actually hire anyone from there. I've talked to Partners about it.

Its a game. They save face and make the firm look good by attending.

Second, with the economy the way it is, firms are simply not hiring. They are cutting their SA classes.

Oh sure, OCI will go forward (Dog-and-Pony) but hiring will most likely not.

Lastly, even if they do hire that certain someone, the person hired may not even have gone through OCI. Someone's kid. Someone exceptional who sent a resume, transcripts, and a cover letter on their own and was brought in to interview, etc.

OCI is the most visible route in hiring but not the only one. I suspect the 'informal network' may easily trump it.

I'm really getting tired of all this negativity. I'm a 3L at a TTTTTTT and we have 3 small firms (20-40 attys) AND the JAG corps coming to our OCI this fall. I'd say that's a pretty good turnout.

And on another note, so funny "he's a JDU troll" lol. I hate that fucking site, I have trouble even reading it for entertainment anymore cause it pisses me off so much. Sites like that should be shut down. My stupid ass cousin who I'm not allowed to talk to anymore per my mom and aunt because I'm worrying him is starting at Florida Coastal this fall, he's a year out of undergrad and leaving a 55K sales/marketing job and moving down there because of sites like TLS spewing these venomous lies to naive youngins like him. He's just tired of being "on the bottom his whole life" and thinks the law degree will just allow him a golden ticket to any upper management job he wants.

As a long time TLS reader, none of the regulars there (the ones with more than a thousand posts) would EVER recommend someone go to Florida Coastal. The people who have already made up their minds to ruin their life in such a way will not be dissuaded anyways, as you've already seen in your own family.

Sites like TLS (and LSD before it) have no impact on that section of the future law school population.

Actually, there is a shortage of executioners in China. You should apply. They will need an American JD there in order. That would allow them to tell all those puky human rights organisations "That an amercan lawyer is involved in each case with cap punishment".

They have nothing to worry about. Sooner or later the recession should end and people will start hiring again. If they graduate without a job, they can go all in and get a prestigious LLM from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School which offers LLM's in Corporate Law and Finance, Intellectual Property, Tax, Insurance Law (never heard of that one before) as well as a Self Directed LLM (who knew). Better yet, they even have their own professional baseball stadium which hosts the third place Lansing Lugnuts who are only nine games out at the moment. You can go to one of their four campuses all over the state of Michigan. Cooley is now ranked 12th ahead of Cal, Penn and Stanford. They will even help you obtain your student loan.http://www.cooley.edu/finaid/howto_sept2010.html.
