Will there be yet another increase in applicants for '11? Or do you think that the mainstream media's coverage (scant as it may be) of the legal employment crisis will discourage a substantial number of would be students from applying?

Based on my own anecdotal experience, a lot of my friends who finished undergrad in the past few years want to go to law school. They are vaguely aware of the "bad economy," but are convinced they will be different. Those with a shot at T-14 are applying there and think if they get in, it will save them. These are people who lucked out and managed a decent job paying ~40k a year right out of college. I try to explain to them that they're going to ruin everything, but every moron is still convinced they're going to be making six figures after law school.

Actually, almost everyone I know who has a BA is either going to, or already in, some form of graduate education. So no, people are not getting the message.

I was on the bus the other day heading towards St Johns University. Overheard two attractive young women discussing what they would do for their "next" masters. Both agreed that they werent quite ready to enter the workforce, and didnt really have a firm idea what they were interested in. But it was somewhere between psychology, sociology, and law. The conversation died down when they saw me laughing out into nothing.

Did they say "MY master's" when talking about the next one? As in, "it's got my name on it and just have to go sign up for it" - ?

You can take this to the bank: every single 1L seat in every ABA accredited law school will be filled in the fall.. Hell likely every single non-accredited law school seat will be filled as well..

The volume of law school applications is totally irrelevant, if everyone who could possibly enter the legal market in three years, will still continue to do so.

Just remember, when in three years they all come on JDUnderground complaining, tell them that unlike most of us, they were told of the actual state of the job market, they just decided not to believe us.

i know i found this place totally by accident. i can't even remember wtf i was googling that i stumbled across it. but you can throw a rock on the Internet these days, without ever even intending to, and find anti-lawschool chatter.

but oh, how i wish i'd stumbled across it, or something similar, 8 years ago.

Yes, how this could have saved me from a miserable life if I'd found it in time.
